From art school graduate, to running a small business with her husband, whilst raising a family, to now full time artist and gallery owner, artist Emma Targett has come full circle.
Working from her home studio and gallery, Rupert Gallery and Studio, in Hobart Tasmania, Emma has embraced her idyllic country childhood and creative background. Exuberant vases of flowers and branches of quinces fresh from the tree, collected from local markets, friend’s gardens or her parents farm, provide the perfect inspiration for her charming and eye catching botanical and still life paintings. We are gently reminded of the beauty surrounding us, when we take the time to pause and observe.
As her work has evolved, we see the introduction of animal imagery that brings a delightful whimsical quality to her work. ‘ I love animals and their individual, quirky personalities, growing up on a farm we were surrounded by domestic and native animals, even now living in town we might have the odd pet lamb stay with us. ’
Emma has had a number of group and solo exhibitions, previously as a ceramicist and more recently as a painter, with her work being held in local and interstate collections. Her fresh painterly style of working continues to evolve as she develops and extends her practice.
‘ When I am painting everything else fades away as I get caught up in the moment of layering the paint and watching the form emerge from the canvas ’
